A hybrid system uses a combination of renewable power sources according to what is available at any time of year. Micro-Hydro Turbine in a small creek provides the majority of winter time electricity at this site. Note the use of two separate nozzles, each with a shut-off valve. One or both maybe used according to the seasonal flow of the creek. Different sized nozzle heads may also be used to extract as much available power as possible.

When the creek is too low to produce power the other components of the hybrid system come into play. Solar and wind work in tandem together to charge the batteries of this off- grid homestead. These PVs are on a dual-axis tracker, which follows the sun on it's daily path.

Wind power is very site specific. A small turbine may be able to supplement another renewable energy source. Wind turbines need at least ten mile an hour sustained winds to produce viable energy.
